Education for Sustainable Development in Canadian Faculties of Education Publication Date: 2012-05-31

This study examines how Canadian faculties of education are incorporating ESD into their pre-service programs, research, and other activities. It was produced by the CMEC Education for Sustainable Development Working Group (ESDWG), in partnership with the International Institute for Sustainable Development (IISD) and Learning for a Sustainable Future (LSF).

Report to UNESCO and the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights on Human Rights Education: Report for Canada 2005–2009 Publication Date: 2011-05-30

At the request of the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), UNESCO has asked member states to report on the first phase of the World Programme for Human Rights Education, 2005–2009. CMEC and the Canadian Commission for UNESCO have collaborated to prepare the report for Canada covering the period from 2005 to 2009.The main sections of the report deal with policies and policy implementation, learning environments, teaching and learning processes and resources, and the training of school personnel.

Fourth APEC Education Ministerial Meeting, Lima, Peru, June 11-12, 2008 Publication Date: 2008-10-21

The 4th APEC Education Ministerial Meeting focused on the theme of "21st Century Competencies and Skills for All," and the four sub-themes of math and science, career and technical education, language learning, and information and communications technologies and systemic reform. This report details Canada's contributions and bilateral meetings during the event and provides the main discussion document.

Task Force for International Cooperation on Holocaust Education, Remembrance, and Research Publication Date: 2008-04-15

This report outlines the multiple aspects of Holocaust education and remembrance, including the aid and commitment of governments, historical issues of the Holocaust in Canada, the current status of teaching about the Holocaust, and current projects related to remembrance and research. The focus of the reort is on the work of ministries of education, nongovernmental organizations, and the federal government.

Report to UNECE and UNESCO on Indicators of Education for Sustainable Development Publication Date: 2007-10-15

The United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) asked member states to report on their implementation of the Strategy for Education for Sustainable Development in formal, non-formal, and informal settings, within the context of the United Nations Decade of Education for Sustainable Development. This report was structured around the nine main issues outlined in the UNECE questionnaire: policy, regulation, and operational frameworks; formal, non-formal, and informal learning; educators; tools and resources; research and development; cooperation; indigenous knowledge; challenges and obstacles; and assistance needed. The document includes the policies and programs from 2005 to 2007 of the provinces and territories, non-governmental and civil-society organizations, and departments of the federal government.

United Nations Decade of Education for Sustainable Development (2005-14) - Canada's Response to the UNESCO Questionnaire Publication Date: 2006-03-31

The United Nations has declared the years 2005 to 2014 as the Decade of Education for Sustainable Development, under the leadership of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). One of the first steps in implementing plans for the decade was to get an early sense of the activities in place or planned in member countries. To that end, UNESCO circulated a questionnaire requesting input about action plans, events, and the major parties involved. This report details the involvement of 11 of the 13 provincial and territorial governments, as well as of civil society and the federal government.

Secondary Education in Canada: A Student Transfer Guide, 2004-2005 Publication Date: 2005-11-25

Each year, thousands of Canadian secondary-school students transfer from one province or territory to another. One of the major concerns associated with such transfers is the continuity of students' education. This document was prepared to assist receiving schools in placing secondary students so that their education would be as continuous as possible. Information for each jurisdiction is divided into two parts: part I provides information on secondary education in each of the ten provinces and three territories, and part II contains course descriptions to facilitate the placement of students.

This report was prepared for the Council of Ministers of Education, Canada, by Manitoba Education and Training (Sustainable Development Initiative). Common Framework of Science Learning Outcomes K to 12 Publication Date: 1997-10-17

The Common Framework of Science Learning Outcomes K to 12 sets out a vision and foundation statements for scientific literacy in Canada, outlines general and specific learning outcomes, and provides illustrative examples for some of these outcomes. The framework provides common ground for the development of curriculum within each participating jurisdiction. Other potential benefits include a greater harmonization of science curriculum for increased student mobility, the development of quality pan-Canadian learning resources, and collaboration in professional development activities by teachers of science. Each jurisdiction determines when and how the framework is to be used.
