Examination of the Impact of the Provincial Needs Assessment Process for Student Financial Assistance Publication Date: 2009-11-09

The study is intended to increase understanding of the impact of financial assistance on the behaviour of students, especially as it relates to unmet need, based on the student financial assistance data from eight participating provinces: British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, and Newfoundland and Labrador.

The objective of the literature review was to examine current and relevant literature and documentation in order to identify and explore issues pertaining to Aboriginal youths' access to financial assistance for PSE; the interdependence of cultural, social, and financial barriers to PSE; and research gaps in this area.

The objective of the research was to interview students who had indicated that they either did not intend to pursue, or were undecided about attending, postsecondary education (PSE), and to identify the reasons why these students were not pursuing postsecondary education.
