The January 2007 PCERA (Pan-Canadian Education Research Agenda) symposium focused on provincial and territorial literacy practices and policies, with an emphasis on the use of research and data to inform policy and programming decisions. Participants profiled promising practices and discussed the connections between data and policy for both adult and school-age literacy. A special session concentrated on the challenges faced by Aboriginal people in improving literacy levels.

The PCERA symposium was hosted by CMEC and Statistics Canada, with 65 participants from ministries and departments of education, the Government of Canada, and literacy organizations from across the country.
