Held in November 2005, this CMEC pan-Canadian forum featured current research and successful practices in literacy and numeracy for school-aged children. Keynotes were delivered by international education experts, including: Dr. Michael Fullan, Chief Advisor to the Premier and Minister of Education, Ontario; Sir Michael Barber, Former Chief Advisor to Prime Minister Tony Blair, United Kingdom; and international literacy consultant Dr. Carmel Crévola, who spoke about achieving large-scale reform and the elements of successful classroom literacy programs.

The forum, organized in partnership with the Literacy and Numeracy Secretariat of the Ontario Ministry of Education, also included 10 showcase displays from Ontario school boards and 60 workshops by experts from around the country — each illustrating and sharing promising practices in improving student achievement in literacy and numeracy.
