Ministers of Education in Vancouver July 5–6 for their 107th Meeting and to Attend a Major Pan Canadian Event on Indigenous Education

Toronto, June 28, 2018 — Provincial and territorial ministers of education will be in Vancouver July 56 for the 107th meeting of the Council of Ministers of Education, Canada (CMEC) and to attend a major pan-Canadian event, the CMEC Symposium on Indigenizing Teacher Education.

CMEC 107 will give ministers the opportunity to review progress on CMEC initiatives and activities and discuss a wide variety of current issues in education. Indigenous education, from the early years to postsecondary studies, will be the main focus of their deliberations. Other topics on the agenda include:

  • well-being in schools and on campus;
  • global competencies; and,
  • the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal 4 (SDG 4) in Canada.

A communiqué is scheduled for release on Friday afternoon, July 6.

The Chair of CMEC, the Honourable Melanie Mark, Minister of Advanced Education, Skills and Training for British Columbia, and the Honourable Rob Fleming, Minister of Education for British Columbia, will be available for interviews. Other provincial and territorial education ministers may also be available.
