Class exemption

An entire class may be exempted only if all the students in the class have special education needs that prevent them from participating. For instance, a Grade 8/Secondary II class of language learners in which no students have enough proficiency to take the PCAP assessment may be exempted as a whole. In such a case, please apply the appropriate code in the exemption column (4) of the School Information Form. All the students in the class must belong to at least one of the following three categories (see the descriptions in the preceding section):

1 = Students with functional disabilities
2 = Students with intellectual disabilities or socio-emotional conditions
3 = Students with limited assessment language experience

If all the students in the exempted class do not belong to the same special education needs category, input the category code corresponding to the majority of students. All class-level exemptions need to be reviewed and approved by CMEC.
