More than 60 countries participated in TIMSS 2015. Canada was among the countries participating in this important project.

In Canada, a sample of schools was selected at random. Within each of the sampled schools, at least one Grade 4 and/or Grade 8/Secondary II class was selected to participate in the assessment. Five Canadian provinces participated in TIMSS 2015: Alberta (Grade 4 only); Ontario and Quebec (as benchmarking participants); and Manitoba and Newfoundland and Labrador (as part of the Canadian sample). Canada-wide participation was coordinated by the CMEC.

The international report was published on November 29, 2016. The Canadian report presents provincial-level results on Grade 4 and Grade 8/Secondary II student achievement in mathematics and science, but will also provide results with respect to home, classroom, and school characteristics.
