More than 60 countries participated in TIMSS 2019. Five Canadian provinces participated: Alberta, Manitoba, and Newfoundland and Labrador in Grade 4 (as oversampling participants) and Ontario and Quebec in Grade 4 and Grade 8/Secondary II (as benchmarking participants). Canada-wide participation was coordinated by the CMEC.

The international report was published on December 8, 2020. The Canadian report presents provincial-level results on Grade 4 student achievement in mathematics and science, but will also provide results with respect to home, classroom, and school characteristics. A Canadian report was not published for Grade 8/Secondary II.
